Late last August, I kind of unexpectedly lost my father. I say “kind of” because while he had been struggling with congestive heart failure, we were all very confident he had some good years left.
My dad had an old bike, and though I hadn’t set on a bicycle (except the stationary kinds at the gym) in more than 20 years, I decided to take it for a spin.
That simple “spin” around the neighborhood turned out to be the start of an on-going passion. Turns out, I was made to bike! I realized I could ride, and glide and just enjoy the sunshine on my face without any worries. The sound of the wind in my ears seemed to make time stand still and it was easy for me to clear my mind and feel okay about whatever was going on.
What fun this biking was!
Then, this year, I handed down my dad’s bike to my oldest daughter and invested in one that was more sturdy for the miles I planned on logging on. And this weekend was the best!
We started out in Carmichael, at the end of Arden Way, and rode all the way to Folsom! Beals point was lovely and by the time I managed the hills, my legs were aching. We calculated about 30 miles…give or take a couple, but still, 30 miles?!
While I thought I’d be sore the next day, I woke up refreshed and ready to take my Sunday morning yoga class (but I did sleep like a baby!).
One thing I was thinking about on the bike trail (besides, “how in the heck am I gonna make it all the way to Folsom?”) was how I was literally traveling, via mountain bike, through all the areas I sell real estate in. We started at Arden, and we all know I love Arden Hills, Arden Park, and of course, my own home of Carmichael. Next thing I knew, we were peddling past the Sunrise Bridge and in Fair Oaks, past Orangevale and finally, into Folsom. I told my husband (see photo) that I literally biked my real estate area! Maybe I should change my blog to read, “Selling Bike Trail Real Estate.”
So for anyone wanting to experience something fun, try the bike trail. You can walk it, run it, or bike it…hey, you can even RAFT it! But if you are a Sacramento resident of visitor, it really is worth the time to enjoy our raging river, nature, and the great little communities along the way.
Ta ta for now,
Tamara
